The Blue Hawaiian

4.8/5 · house rating

A vivid blue Hawaiian cocktail with pineapple wedge and cherry in a hurricane glass

It looks like the ocean decided to become a drink. It tastes like the ocean made an excellent decision. Sweet, creamy, impossibly blue — the kind of cocktail that arrives and instantly improves the lighting.

  • Yield: 1 cocktail
  • Time: 5 minutes
  • Glass: hurricane, over fresh ice

Ingredients

  • 2 oz white rum
  • ¾ oz blue curaçao
  • 2 oz pineapple juice
  • ¾ oz cream of coconut (Coco López, stirred well)
  • ½ oz fresh lime juice
  • Pineapple wedge and cherry, for garnish (commit to the bit)

Steps

  1. Fill a hurricane glass with fresh ice — the tall kind. This drink deserves the architecture.
  2. Add the rum, blue curaçao, pineapple juice, cream of coconut, and lime juice to a shaker filled with ice.
  3. Shake hard for 12–15 seconds, until frosty and fully combined.
  4. Strain over the fresh ice. Watch the color happen — that's the whole show.
  5. Garnish with the pineapple wedge and cherry. Yes, both. This is not the time for restraint.

Salty wisdom: the blue curaçao is doing two jobs — citrus flavor and that impossible lagoon color. Don't swap it for something clear and call it the same drink. And the lime juice isn't traditional, but tradition never had to compete with our palates — it keeps the whole thing from tipping into candy.
